Psoriasis is a noncontagious, genetic disease of the immune system that affects the skin and/ or joints.

The most common form, plaque psoriasis, results in raised, red lesions covered by silvery white scales.

Psoriasis can be limited to a few lesions or can involve moderate to large areas of skin.

Having 3 to 10 percent of the body affected by psoriasis is generally considered to be a moderate case. More than 10 percent is

considered severe.

In ayurveda it is termed as Kitibh.

Dosha Involvement is Kapha & Vaata.


Asatmya Aahara vihara, Virudha aahar, Agni Mandya, Sharat ritu, Tension, Anxiety, Low sleep, etc.

Varieties, Signs and Symptoms

A. As per Ayurveda  Kiṭibha (psoriasis) is one of the varieties of eleven kṣudra kuṣṭha (comparatively less· harmful, easily treated obstinate diseases of skin).  The Doṣa (body humors) involved in this disease are Vāta and Kapha.·  The clinical features are Śyāvaṁ (Blackish brown discoloration of skin),· Kiṇakharasparśa (affected skin will be rough to touch like the scar tissue), Paruṣa (hard to touch)


There are various line of treatments mentioned in Ayurvedic Texts depending upon the Onset of disease, Age & Sex of patient,  Dosha involved, spread of the disease.

Then Shodhan chikitsa(Panchkarma) is most important for removal of the dosha from the body.

Then there is immunity modulatory herbs mentioned in the Ayurveda which includes Manjith, Khadir, Curcumin, Aloe Vera, Guduchi, neem, Gandhak, Guugul & few gold preparation are also used in few cases.

Oils prepared with combination of various herbs, for external application is a must for moistening the skin and prevent the scaliness.
